To use the term “annexation” in relation to the Peninsula is propaganda, said the expert. He explained that the difference between “annexation” and “secession” can be illustrated by the difference between the words “select” and “accept”.
In August last year, the authors of the German documentary about Siberia considered the Russian Crimea. The picture shows the map of Russia with annexed Peninsula, highlighted with the same color as the rest of the territory of the Russian Federation.
Crimea became part of Russia following a referendum in March 2014. The majority of residents were in favour of joining Russia. The Ukrainian government and most of the world, including USA, do not recognize the results, accusing the Russian side of illegal seizure of territory. Moscow rejects the allegations and stresses that the vote has passed with observance of all international norms.
