Russia will create a rocket “Soyuz-2” to launch payload at a competitive price, reports SpaceNews, the statement of the Director General “glavkosmos launch Services” Alexander Serkin.
Speaking at the annual World Satellite Business Week in Paris, the Manager said that the “Soyuz-2” is developed on the basis of “Soyuz-2.1 b”, which will be no upper stage “Fregat”. The future can output 2-3 tons of payload into a sun-synchronous orbit.
The cost of start “Union-2M” is estimated at $ 30 million. “The cost of start-up declined in the last few years. This is a trend that will continue,” says Serkin.
Presumably, modification of “Soyuz-2” will affect the engine of the third stage RD-0124 (also used in vehicles “Angara-1.2” and “Soyuz-5”), which should provide the possibility of multiple start-up and work on the “Soyuz-2” is held in cooperation with Kazakhstan and the UAE.
In may it was reported that light the rocket “Angara-1.2” more secondary carriers “Soyuz-2.1 a and Soyuz-2.1 b” is almost at 700 million rubles.
In October 2018, “glavkosmos launch Services” estimated the cost of the launch of “Soyuz-2” with “Fregat” at 48.5 million rubles, then the price of a missile launch without an upper stage was $ 35 million.
