Sevastopol students have started to learn the Ukrainian language

In Sevastopol, the students with the new academic year began to study the Ukrainian language. This was stated by the Director of the Department of education and science of Sevastopol Igor Belozerov, reports TASS.

Belozerov said that discipline is not required — it will study the choice. In the schools of Sevastopol already teaching the Crimean Tatar language as the national one. It is being taught as electives and compulsory classes for children of different ages. For language learning parents must apply.

The Department said that Russian language as a national study, more than 41 thousand children, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar — about 180. Also there are applications to the study of the Armenian and Azerbaijani languages Ministry is looking for teachers. TASS notes that 77 percent of residents of Sevastopol — Russians, Ukrainians make up 13 percent. About 10 percent of the population — representatives of other nationalities.

In March, the speaker of the state Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to oblige Ukraine to Crimea pay compensation for losses incurred by the Peninsula during his stay in the Republic. He also said that Ukraine treated Crimea “very dishonest”, violating residents ‘ rights to language and education in their own language.
