Almost half of Russians are confident that compatriots were less likely to use private cars due to high gasoline prices. This is evidenced by data survey, national center for the study of public opinion (VTSIOM), which leads RIA Novosti.
In the survey, 47 percent of respondents as the reason for failure from the frequent use of the car indicated expensive gasoline. 16 percent said that they are not always affordable for machine maintenance, the need for insurance and higher taxes. Financial difficulties and attempts to save as the reason for called 15 percent of respondents.
Also a reason to abandon the car was the traffic (14 per cent), concern about the environment (eight per cent) and the poor condition of roads (seven percent).
Gasoline prices in Russia rose sharply in the spring of 2016 due to changes in world prices of fuel and higher taxes. Further, a law was passed on the completion of the tax maneuver in the oil industry, providing major oil companies incentives in the form of back excise duty on petroleum raw materials with a damping factor, which must be paid in case of exceeding the world prices of internal. Also, the government was entitled to introduce prohibitive export duties with the aim to provide the domestic market with sufficient volume of supply.
