Russia and Ukraine have failed to reach any agreement on the issue of transit of Russian gas negotiations with the participation of the European Union. This was written in Facebook by the Executive Director of “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Yuriy Vitrenko.
“As expected, before the talks never reached the Russian side is not taking a consolidated position of Ukrainian and European parties, a waiver of the decision of the Stockholm arbitration may not be a prerequisite to start negotiations on a new contract for transit,” — said Vitrenko.
According to him, Ukraine should prepare for the termination of gas transit through its territory from 1 January.
Trilateral talks took place in Brussels on 19 September. In they took part the Deputy head of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maros Sefcovic, the head of “Naftogaz” Andrey KOBOLEV, Ukraine’s Minister of energy Alexey Orzhel and his Russian counterpart Alexander Novak and the head of “Gazprom” Alexey Miller. The Ukrainian side hopes to negotiate about the future of transit in the framework of this meeting.
In turn, Novak said that Russia guarantees gas supplies to Europe and after 2020 on the condition that Ukraine implementeret in its laws to European norms. In this case, the operator of the gas transportation system (GTS) of the country will be obliged to put capacities to the auction where they will be able to buy “Gazprom”.
Also Novak said that he had offered Kiev to resume direct purchases of Russian gas, rather than the current reverse supply from Europe.
