In North Ossetia introduced a special geoinformational system of monitoring of leopards, through which scientists will be able to save time on gathering information and remotely make adjustments to the study. This was reported by the curator of the project Institute of ecology and evolution named Severtsov, RAS and the company “RusHydro” on the restoration of leopards in the region Artur Alibekov, reports TASS.
According to him, North Ossetia has become the first region in Russia where it was implemented, such a monitoring system. She now works in test mode.
“To gather data during expeditions to the specially developed advanced software that allows you to reprovisioning the process of gathering information and prepare database directly during expeditions, track tracks motion data from camera-traps, accumulating them into a single database tied to location,” — said Alibekov.
Scientists are also planning thanks to the recordings from camera traps to find the Persian leopard of mount Elbrus, which disappeared from sight in the wild of South Ossetia in December 2017.
Earlier it was reported that employees of the “Center of nature of the Caucasus” launched the online broadcast, thanks to which anyone can observe the life of Persian leopards. Only the national project “Ecology” will spend four trillion rubles, three of which will receive from investors. Due to the Federal project “the Conservation of biological diversity and development of ecological tourism” in Russia there will be 11 special programs that will increase populations of rare species, and 24 new protected areas with a total area of 5 million hectares.
