The Israel antiquities authority announced that archaeologists have discovered the ruins of a large ancient city, whose age is more than five thousand years. About it reported in a press release on Phys.org.
The city was discovered in preparation for the construction of a highway near the settlement of Harish, located 50 kilometers North of tel Aviv. It occupied an area of 65 acres, and there lived six thousand people. Was excavated a network of streets, alleys and squares, as well as drainage and storage facilities.
The researchers found that the temple and burnt bones of animals which are likely to be sacrificed. Among the artifacts — head figurines, pieces of pottery, flint tools and stone vessels. According to archaeologists, the findings are unique evidence of organized society and the social hierarchy. Previously it was thought that at this time people are engaged in agriculture, are only beginning to create urban areas.
It is also reported that under the ruins of buildings were found signs of the existence of an even more ancient settlement, whose age reaches seven thousand years.
