Calvados production will resume in Russia in the Stavropol region. This was stated by the head of the production laboratory of winery “Praskoveyskoe” Natalia Alimova, writes “Kommersant”.
According to her, currently in Russia there are no more enterprises for the production of this drink. Finished domestic Calvados will appear on the Russian market in 2021.
Now the plant plans to produce about five thousand gallons, but with the prospect of increasing volumes. Installation of equipment for primary processing of apples will end by spring of next year. The plant has been producing Calvados ten years ago, but switched to cognac. Alimov said that to resume production decided at the request of consumers.
Calvados first appeared in the French Normandy. It is produced from apples or pears. It is a brandy obtained through the distillation of cider. The alcohol content in it — up to 40 percent. In Russia he became popular as a favourite drink of author Ernest Hemingway and the characters of books by Erich Maria Remarque.
Earlier it was reported that the beer took first place in Russia among alcoholic beverages for consumption, including the level of pure alcohol contained in different kinds of alcohol.
