Flights between Russia and Georgia can be restored in the “near future”, said the head of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov. His words are on the website of the lower house of Parliament on Tuesday, 8 October.
MP participated in the meeting of the Interparliamentary group of the dialogue between Russia and Georgia. He noted that while the specific date is too early, as the Russian side should ensure the safety of airports.
Kalashnikov stressed that despite the crisis in relations between the two countries, parliamentary interaction continues.
On October 5 the Georgian foreign Ministry expressed the desire as soon as possible to resume direct flights to Russia.
A day earlier the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov admitted the restoration of air links. According to him, first you must make sure that the situation does not return to “aggressive direction.”
Direct flights between the two countries has been suspended since July 8, according to the decree of President Vladimir Putin amid anti-Russian protests in Tbilisi.
