Ukraine is unlikely to achieve NATO standards by the end of 2020. This is stated in the report of the canadian Senator Jane Cordy, published on the website of the parliamentary Assembly of the Alliance.
According to Cordy, set in 2016, the goal is to meet the NATO standards can not be achieved by the required date, despite progress over the past five years. The Senator claims that at the moment Ukraine is still far from membership in NATO and the EU, but it is achievable if all the necessary criteria.
“The Euro-Atlantic community must exercise patience and flexibility in relation to Ukraine. His approach must be political, not bureaucratic,” — said Cordy.
Earlier, the Ukrainian government said it would achieve the criteria necessary for accession into NATO and the European Union, until 2025. It is emphasized that Armed forces of Ukraine needs to achieve new abilities, meet the military criteria for membership in the Alliance. In the framework of the program the Cabinet plans to implement certain technical and administrative standards of NATO.
