The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky opposes granting autonomy beyond the control of Kiev territories of Donetsk and Luhansk region. He stated this during a press conference broadcast which led the TV channel “112 Ukraine” on YouTube.
“I don’t believe [the surveys] that 34 percent of our country said they were for the separation of these territories (of Donbass — approx. “Of the tape.ru”). Don’t know, I can’t say. I’m not ready to give autonomy to this territory,” — said the Ukrainian leader.
However, he assured that he is ready to discuss specific humanitarian issues. However, while no text of the document, it is premature to talk about the compromises ready Kiev, said Zelensky.
Answering the journalist’s question what forces after the withdrawal of troops will monitor the line of contact in Donbas, Zelensky called the police and employees of the OSCE, which “should be at the border to help our border.” However, he said that the Russian-Ukrainian border should appear contingent.
Zelensky said that he believes in the possibility of a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Donbass, and expressed the hope that it will take no more than a year. “I think that in General, from the moment we started working with a new group in the Minsk process, more than a year we can’t lose. But I don’t know how events will develop further. I have not yet met with all the leaders of “Norman Quartet” at the round table,” he said.
Zelensky expressed hope that the meeting of heads of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine in Normandy format will be held in November. “I think we will get a date next week. I think the date will be this year”, — said the Ukrainian leader.
Earlier, on 10 October Zelensky said about the existence of a secret “plan B” to resolve the situation in the Donbass, which can be an alternative to the Minsk agreements. He refused to disclose the details of the alternative strategy of Kiev, saying only that he was not satisfied with the current format of the agreements.
