The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) to assess the consequences of the decision of the Greek Orthodox Church to recognize the validity of the assignment of autonomy to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PCU). TASS on 12 October, Deputy Chairman Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Archpriest Nikolai Balashov.
“The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church will consider soon the implications of the decision taken today by the Council of bishops of the Greek Church, for the bilateral relations of our churches and world Orthodoxy in General,” — said Balashov.
Earlier Greek media reported that the Council of bishops of the Greek Orthodox Church recognized the right of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople to grant autocephaly to the PCU.
Ptsu was established on 15 December 2018 to the unification Council representatives of the non-canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC KP) and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. Patriarch Bartholomew has removed the anathema from their chapters and 6 January 2019 presented the “new Church” the Tomos of autocephaly. ROC broke Eucharistic communion with Constantinople.
