Russia responded to the statement of Latvia of rewriting history

The official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said the statement of the Latvian foreign Ministry on the inadmissibility of fireworks in Moscow to commemorate the liberation of Riga from the Nazis, and rewriting history. Her words leads owned by Grigory Berezkin the RBC.

Zakharov said that Latvia has lost its economic, military and humanitarian sovereignty because of the placement of NATO forces in the country. “If the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Latvia appreciated the freedom, we didn’t encourage the deployment on its territory of foreign military contingents”, she added.

The diplomat said that the deployment of NATO forces in Riga spends two percent of its GDP, and it is a kind of “pay for the occupation.”

The day before, 11 October, the Latvian foreign Ministry expressed opposition to the holding in Moscow of fireworks, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Riga by the Soviet forces from German occupation. The upcoming celebration in the Ministry called unfriendly step and accused the Russian side in the rewriting of history.

To spend the festive fireworks in honor of the 75 anniversary of the liberation of the cities of the former USSR and Eastern Europe from the forces of Nazi Germany suggested the Ministry of defence. The Agency had intended in 2019 to celebrate the victories of the red army in Tallinn, Vilnius, Kaunas, Riga, Chisinau and Brest. In 2020 it was planned to continue to run the fireworks in honor of the liberation of Warsaw, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna and Prague. The latter should be the event in honor of the 75th anniversary of the capture of Berlin.
