Russia cut off analog TV

Russia completed the fourth stage of the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting. On October 14 the figure passed the last two dozen regions (39 million people).

Transition means the shutdown of analog signal throughout the country. Digital TV is only available to those Russians who support the TV format DVB-T2. To watch 20 free channels, for older TVs had to buy a special digital console. Low-income citizens with the purchase and installation of receivers should help the regional authorities. Setting up consoles citizens helped the volunteers.

In February, the Deputy Minister warned people against fraudsters, who, together with consoles are trying to impose on the audience the service contracts pay-cable television.

After the shutdown of the analog signal without TV, according to various estimates, in 2018, it could be from 10 to 30 percent of the population. A more optimistic forecast of 10 percent was given to the Ministry of communications and mass communications. A comprehensive study commissioned by industry and trade showed that no TV can stay up to 33.7 million families (just as many TVs by October 2018 would not accept a digital signal).

In Ministry of communications assert that if at the start of the project on transition from analogue to digit outside digital terrestrial coverage in Russia, there were 800 thousand families, currently there are less than 20 thousand.

Industry transition to digital the rails were held in the framework of target program “Development of broadcasting”, it started in 2009. For the program has allocated a total of 174 billion rubles, of which 97 billion — funds from the Federal budget.
