The Metropolitan of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Kirill vote for the construction of the Cathedral of St. Catherine in Ekaterinburge Pavel Lisitsyn / RIA Novosti
The majority of survey participants on the construction site of the temple of St. Catherine in Yekaterinburg called for the territory of the former instrument-making factory — it was voted, 60 percent of respondents. This was announced by the Chairman of the city election Commission Vadim Antoshin, reports TASS.
These results became known after processing about 15 thousand of ballots. The final results will be known not earlier than 08:00 Moscow time. The survey was attended by about 100 thousand citizens.
Earlier the electoral Commission of Yekaterinburg recognized on the ballot for a place for the construction of the Church of St. Catherine in the city. Polling began at 8 am and lasted up to 20 hours. In the newsletter, residents were asked to choose from two locations in the city centre: the former instrument-making plant at Gorky street on the banks of Iset river and the shore of the pond for the Makarov bridge.
In may in Yekaterinburg began protest action against the construction in the green zone, which was accompanied by clashes of protesters with security forces and arrests. The construction was suspended, the construction of the temple will begin before the end of 2020.
