Moscow office of internal Affairs opened a criminal case on the fact of fraud in the foreign exchange market, writes “Kommersant”. The amount of damage customers unscrupulous Forex dealer amounted to one billion rubles.
According to the materials of the case, the criminals acted under the brand STForex without the necessary license from the Central Bank. Its activities in the foreign exchange market they carried out in 2014.
It is noted that scammers used elaborate the scheme: organized courses in currency trading and then tried to persuade their members to invest small amounts. After clients have received in such transactions a profit, they offered to invest more actively.
Tools majority of customers, according to the investigation, were stolen, and the victim explained that their actions caused losses. The money was transferred into accounts of criminals through the established company, which also was not licensed by the Central Bank.
The defendants in the case are currently the founder STForex Alexander Smirnov and his assistant Kirill Ostapenko. Both released on bail pending trial.
At the beginning of the year, the Central Bank issued a proposal to ban unskilled investors to make transactions on the interbank currency market using Forex dealers or brokers. While the initiative has not received legislative registration.
