Global warming will trigger an increase in the concentration of polluting compounds in the air of Russian cities, RIA Novosti reported statement by the head of the laboratory of modeling and forecasting of air pollution the Main geophysical Observatory (GGO) Irina Smirnova.
“Secondary contaminants formed in the atmosphere by chemical reactions (nitrogen dioxide, ozone, formaldehyde), there will be more. For example, increasing the atmospheric temperature increases the concentration of formaldehyde… in theory, warming of the air gives us increased concentration of formaldehyde, which has already been observed, in recent years, the average concentration increased,” — said the scientist.
Smirnova said that the sources of formaldehyde in the air are industrial enterprises and transport. Also this compound is formed in the polluted atmosphere as a result of chemical reactions occurring under the action of solar radiation. The possible increase of the formaldehyde concentration, the scientist was estimated at 2-10 micrograms per cubic meter. According to Smirnova, reduce the content of harmful substances in the atmosphere contribute to the rains.

Formaldehyde is considered a possible human carcinogen compound. Ingestion of 60 to 90 milliliters of connection leads to death. Signs of chronic poisoning with formaldehyde are, in particular, weight loss, headaches and poor sleep. The average daily maximum allowable concentration of compounds for atmospheric air of populated areas and enclosed spaces is 0.01 milligrams per cubic meter.
