Turkey and the United States agreed to establish a controlled Ankara security zone on the border with Syria. About the Agency RIA Novosti said Advisor to the President of Turkey Yasin Aktay.
According to him, the zone will stretch for a distance of 444 km, its depth is 32 kilometers. It will be East of the Euphrates, particularly the province of al-Raqqah and Deir-ez-Zor. Control over it will carry the Turkish armed forces.
Aktay said that the agreement exists only in words, but the lack of it in written form “does not mean disagreement on this issue”.
On 19 October the Minister of defence of Turkey, Hulusi Akar has said that Ankara is ready to resume military operations in the North of Syria, if the United States promises on the withdrawal of Kurdish forces will not be fulfilled.
To start the operation “Source of peace” against the PKK and the terrorist organization “Islamic state” (ISIS, a terrorist organization banned in Russia) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on 9 October. A week later Vice-President Mike Pence headed to Turkey to discuss the situation in the North of Syria.
On October 17 Turkey and the United States agreed to suspend hostilities for five days. Turkish troops during this time will not come to the Kurdish “people’s protection Units” (YPG) could retreat beyond the borders of the 30-kilometer neutral zone.
