The leaders of seven of the ten countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) came to the summit with the United States, where a representative of Washington was read an invitation from the American President Donald trump on “special summit” in Washington next year. On Monday, November 4, RIA Novosti reported.
The meeting was attended by the Prime Ministers of Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. The rest of the country bloc — Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar and the Philippines — represented by foreign Ministers. Meanwhile, in accordance with the regulations at the summit should attend the heads of state or Prime Ministers.
Trump did not attend the summit of ASEAN leaders and the East Asia summit, which took place 2-4 November in Bangkok. In addition, the American leader had not sent in the event neither the Vice President nor the Secretary of state. The interests of the American side was represented by adviser to the U.S. President for national security Robert O’brien, who read his invitation.
Regional observers have noted that before US is not lowered thus the level of representation at meetings of ASEAN. Last year, trump also was not present at the event, but the American delegation was represented by Vice-President Mike Pence.
