Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Elena zerkal urged the international community to put pressure on Russia to return the detainees in the Kerch Strait Ukrainian ships. She stated this on his page in Facebook.

According to her, the fact that the Russian side did not give “illegally seized ships,” is evidence of an intentional violation of international law. “While the ships will certainly be returned under control of Ukraine, pressure on Russia must continue,” wrote the mirror.

The politician also said that Kiev is seven times already addressed to Moscow with the request to return the ships, but none of the official requests, the Kiev authorities have not received a response.

Earlier on 5 November, the Federation Council member Sergei Tsekov called the condition for the return of detainees in the Kerch Strait Ukrainian ships. He said that Kiev must accept their own provocation. According to him, the Russian authorities consider the behavior of the Ukrainian sailors in the Kerch Strait illegal.

November 4, the Ukrainian foreign Ministry has sent Russia a note of protest with the requirement to give the ships of the Ukrainian Navy detained during the incident in the Kerch Strait. Kiev has asked Moscow to report the position and time when it will be possible to take military court.

In mid-October, Pristayko said that the Russian and Ukrainian commanders discussed the technical issues of the return of military ships detained by Russia near the Crimea at the end of 2018. Earlier, the commander of the Navy Admiral Igor Voronchenko accused the Russian authorities that they allegedly told the International Tribunal of the United Nations false information because of the reluctance to convey to the Kiev court.

25 Nov 2018 Ukrainian warships “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol” and the tug “Yana Kapu” entered Russian territorial waters near the Crimea. The result is a lack of response to warnings from border guards of the FSB of Russia ships and their crews were detained. The incident became a pretext for the introduction in Ukraine of martial law.
