The head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius said that the Russian authorities by their actions impede a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Donbass. He told about it in interview “Radio Freedom”.
According to him, breeding troops near the village of gold is a “sensitive moment.” At the same Linkevičius noted that the truce in the Donbass is still not respected. “So it kind of moves away, and immediately the criticism by Russia that it is impossible to negotiate. This should, on the one hand, to get used to, very firmly hold on to,” said the Lithuanian diplomat.
He added that blocks the way to peace in the region the position of Russia, which “is [itself] a neutral party, although is an active participant in this conflict.” Lithuanian diplomat concluded that the Russian authorities, despite promises to help resolve the conflict, do the opposite.
In July, Lithuania joined the Fund of support of reforms in Ukraine, which is sponsored by the government of Canada. According to Linkevičius, the assistance to Ukraine from the countries, United transatlantic ties, “is crucial to preserve the unity of the West.” “I therefore welcome the joint efforts of our countries for supporting Ukraine and its reforms against Russian aggression”, — he said.
Earlier, the Lithuanian delegation visited the conflict zone in the Donbass. After the visit, the representatives of Kiev and Vilnius discussed the issues of expanding military cooperation between the two countries and shared views on common political interests. Prior to that, Ukraine has received from Lithuania unused ammunition for small arms worth about 256 thousand euros.
