The Bolivian defense Minister Javier Zabaleta resigned. A signed letter of resignation published in Twitter-account of the Ministry.
“I am leaving the post of defense Minister to maintain unity in the Armed forces,” — said in a statement.
Earlier the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales left the country after retirement. The politician admitted that it hurt him to leave the country for political reasons. He promised to return to Bolivia with new strength and energy.
Evo Morales announced the resignation on 10 November, amid ongoing protests. After that the protesters attacked his house and tried to arrest the President. Morales condemned the Bolivian people and the police and called their actions illegal.
Riots in Bolivia started after the announcement of the results of the presidential elections, which took place on 20 October. Them victory in the first round was won by Morales. His opponent, former President Carlos Mesa did not recognize the voting results. The authorities have accused of rigging the results.
