The Russians were more likely to receive fines for traffic violations due to the growth in the number of CCTV cameras on the roads. This was told in the Office for cooperation with civil society institutions and mass media Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia, transfers “the Newspaper.ru”.
In 2017 on the Russian roads were 13 thousand cameras. Currently, their number has increased to 14 thousand.
In the first 9 months of 2019, the Russians got more than 104 million fines for traffic violations. Compared to last year their number grew by almost 10 percent. As the newspaper notes, increase in the number of cameras on the roads has brought in the budget at least 2.5 billion rubles. However, three quarters of drivers prefer to pay the fine immediately to get the discount of 50 percent.
Most often Russian drivers get fines for speeding, not following the traffic signs or markings, as well as a seat belt, Parking in prohibited areas and red light.
Previously the state Duma Committee on state construction endorsed a bill to abolish fines for exceeding the average speed, which is calculated using information from multiple cameras by time and coordinates. According to the amendments introduced in Parliament, the members of the LDPR faction, the fixation speed of the vehicle on the basis of “average speed” or “fixing the location at the beginning and end of the segment” can no longer be used as evidence of wrongdoing.
