The French Embassy in Russia reported in its Ministry of foreign Affairs about the case of Professor Saint-Petersburg state University (SPbSU, Russia) Oleg Sokolov, who confessed to the murder and dismemberment of PhD student Anastasia Yeshchenko. This is done to address the issue, depriving him of the Legion of honor, reports RIA Novosti.

Foreign Ministry asked the French foreign Ministry to convey information to the office of the order. There used to be argued that the decision could only be taken by the President Emmanuel macron.

Sokolova was detained on 9 October in St. Petersburg, when he tried to drown in the Sink severed female hands. A man in a poor condition and suffering from hypothermia was taken to the hospital. He later repented and admitted that he was in a relationship with her former student, Anastasia Eschenko and killed her after a quarrel because of jealousy. Recovering, he decided to dismember the body and get rid of it. On 11 November the Sokolova court arrested for two months.

The Legion of honor was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. This is one of France’s highest honours. Belonging to the order is considered the highest distinction, honor and official recognition of special merits to the country. At various times, the knights of the order became cultural figures from different countries: for example, the Director Takeshi Kitano, author JK Rowling, actor Dennis Hopper.
