Convicted in Russia for espionage, the Norwegian returned home

A citizen of Norway, Frode Berg, who was convicted in Russia for espionage and participated in the Russian-Lithuanian exchange of citizens back home. It is reported by the Norwegian newspaper NRK.

The plane with the Norwegian on Board arrived in Oslo from Vilnius. His house, met his wife and daughter. “He’s happy to be back, especially having finally met the family,” the lawyer said Berg Brunolf of Risnes.

Berg was sentenced in April, the Moscow city court to 14 years in a penal colony for espionage in favour of the Norwegian intelligence service. According to the prosecution, for the money he collected information about nuclear submarines of the Navy of Russia, which is received from the employee of the Russian defense enterprises. Defense of Berg, in turn, claimed that he did not know that is part of the intelligence operation, and Norwegian intelligence agencies could use it to their advantage.

Himself Norwegian expressed his regret about the damage that could cause to relations between Moscow and Oslo, both formal and on the human level. Only in the case were 15 witnesses. It is marked by a signature stamp “top secret”.
