The fourth-generation fighter su-30MKI and su-35 allow you to upgrade to the fifth generation, says columnist TASS Dmitry Litovkin.
In his view, India sees the su-35, capable su-30MKI pull “to the level” as a “possible compromise after the release of the project of joint development of fifth generation fighter”.
“The modernization potential of both machines is almost limitless. Given the fact that each of them was the next stage of the evolution of the top line of OKB [experimental design Bureau] Dry, they are in the fifth generation fit” — says Litovkin.
In June, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said that the export of Russian fifth generation fighter, the su-57 would undermine the sale of su-35.
In July 2018, he said “su-35 is now considered one of the best aircraft in the world”, so “it makes no sense to speed up the work for the mass production of fifth generation aircraft [su-57]”.
In April 2018 edition of Janes announced the suspension of India cooperation with Russia on the FGFA project (Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft), involving the creation on the basis of the su-57 India’s first fifth generation fighter.
