The US President Donald trump has asked Japan to increase the fee for the maintenance of American military on the territory of the country four times. This publication reports Foreign Policy, citing current and former American officials.
It is noted that the proposal was made in July during a trip to Japan, John Bolton, who was then a post of the assistant to the President Donald trump on national security, and Matt Pottinger Advisor to the American leader for Asia. According to the calculations of publication, in the case of increasing the fees Japan will have to pay for the American military on its territory about eight billion dollars a year.
According to Reuters, Japanese authorities considered the request of the United States “unrealistic”. In their view, the costs of the Japanese side on the deployment of troops is already greater than that of the other allies.
