Transfer the detainees to the Russian side in Kerch Strait of the ships Ukraine reflects a desire for reconciliation. This was stated by the head of the Committee on issues of public diplomacy and international relations of the Crimean Parliament Yuri HEMPEL, reports RIA Novosti.
According to him, this step “is logically the right decision and a serious sign of the Ukrainian authorities headed by the President.” HEMPEL added that Russia wants to move forward in establishing “good neighborly partnership” and expects from Kiev reciprocal steps. He suggested that the Ukrainian side could resume the supply of the Dnieper water in the North-Crimean channel.
Earlier on November 18, the Verkhovna Rada said that the transfer of Ukraine detained ships will be a small step towards reconciliation between Moscow and Kiev. It was noted that “a single action to remove all that accumulated over the years, it is impossible for this to be the good will of all parties.”
The delivery of the three ships of Ukraine is carried out on the basis of Russian-Ukrainian agreements and will end on November 18. The ships currently are towed from Kerch in neutral water for subsequent transmission.
25 Nov 2018 border Department of the FSB of Russia detained in the area of the Kerch Strait, three ships of the Ukrainian Navy boats “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol” and the tug “Yana Kapu” — in connection with the unlawful crossing of the state border.
