Heiko Mass and Alexei Goncharovoj: press-fighting service of the government of Ukraine
“Nord stream-2” is a political, not an economic project aimed at strengthening Russia’s influence on Europe. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk, the press service of the Ukrainian government.
According to him, the decision of the German regulator for the withdrawal of the gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” from the scope of EU gas directives will give an opportunity to Gazprom to abuse their position. “Such developments are considered unacceptable,” — said Goncharuk during the meeting with foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas.
The Ukrainian PM also expressed hope that Germany will take part in Russian-Ukrainian relations and will promote the continued transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine.
Earlier, the Bundestag adopted the bill on the implementation of the updated EU gas Directive. In early November, the German ruling coalition has developed a draft law, allowing to bring the construction pipeline “Nord stream-2” from the scope of the updated directives of the European Union. In particular, the requirements of Brussels allow exemptions for pipelines built before may 23, 2019, for example, the first “Nord stream”.
Against the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2” are Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic States and the USA. In addition, the EU is trying to limit the influence of Moscow in the gas issue. The construction of “Nord stream-2” is still ongoing. Denmark gave permission to lay pipes in its waters only at the end of October, so that the input pipeline is likely to take place in early 2020.
