If you melt all the gold ever mined in the world, you get a cube with an edge length of 21 meter. Such calculations leads to the world gold Council.
According to him, as of the end of 2017 the total mass of mined gold in the world was 190 040 tons. As explained in the organization, this volume includes all the historical gold artifacts. Each year, the production brings additional 2.5–3 thousand tons.
According to analysts of the organization, of the total volume extracted in human history gold two-thirds was extracted from the ground in the period since 1950. Almost half of the “ground” stocks of gold have jewelry (47.7 per cent).
The remaining underground reserves, according to experts, amount to 54 thousand tons. In recent years, gold mining has grown, however, experts predict that in the coming 8-10 years, it will slow down.
This is not the first time in the world to count the volume of gold ever mined. In 2012 the American investor Warren Buffett said that if you transform all the world’s gold into a cube, its edge will have a length of 20 meters.
