The Senator from Minnesota Amy Klobuchar called for the resumption of negotiations on the conclusion and renewal of treaties between Russia and the United States. She stated this during the debates, candidates from the Democratic party, which broadcast carried channel MSNBC.
According to Klobuchar, countries should extend the Treaty on measures for the further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms (start Treaty) and to renew the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty). She also called Russia a terrible player in the international arena and noted that the President of the United States Donald trump abruptly withdrew from the nuclear agreement with Moscow. Klobuchar believes that it is necessary to start negotiations, despite “cheating” on the part of Russia.
Earlier in the debates from the Democratic party by a former Vice-President of the USA Joseph Biden. He noted that trump doesn’t want his participation in the elections from the Democrats, and Russia wants him to victory in the presidential election of 2020.
The action of the Russian-American start Treaty, which entered into force in February 2011, expires in February 2021. The agreement provides for bilateral limiting the number of nuclear warheads and strategic delivery vehicles.
The action of the INF Treaty was formally closed on 2 August. The document forbade countries to produce, test and deploy weapons of medium and shorter-range missiles. Washington broke the agreement, allegedly due to violations of its terms by the Russian side. Moscow has indicated unsubstantiated nature of the allegations and complained about the reluctance of the US to enter the dialogue.
