Named the new U.S. Ambassador to Russia

A U.S. Senate Committee approved the nomination of John Sullivan to the post of Ambassador to Russia. This was reported on the website of the Committee.

Now it holds a post of Deputy Secretary of state. In addition to Sullivan, the Committee approved another 14 candidates in relation to foreign policy posts.

John Sullivan has worked in the Pentagon, the justice Ministry and the Ministry of Commerce. At the state Department he is only two but is already considered one of the main figures of the Department.

“The experience of Mr. Sullivan as the Secretary of state gave him a clear view of the many problems that we have with Russia. This will allow him to build the relationship between our countries”,— said the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on foreign relations Republican Jim Risch. He also noted that he would like to Sullivan’s candidacy was approved by the Senate of the U.S. Congress.

The US President Donald trump has previously said he intends to appoint Deputy state Secretary of the new American Ambassador in Moscow.

In August 2019, former Ambassador Jon huntsman has resigned. In his statement, the politician said that flattered by the trust that trump “had him as U.S. Ambassador to Russia in this historically difficult period of bilateral relations.” He added that Moscow need to be held accountable for the wrong behavior and continue a dialogue with it for the benefit of national interests.
