The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky refused his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on the location on the border with Russia, Belarusian border guards. He told about it in the past in Ochakovo night briefing, transfers “Interfax”.
According to Zelensky, Lukashenko promised to “definitely help” if Kiev will return to Minsk during the capture of the border under control. However, the President of Ukraine thanked him and refused. “I think that we are independent country and we have enough of their border guards,” — he stressed.
In September Lukashenka announced readiness to send peacekeepers to the Donbas and to take control of a section of the Ukrainian-Russian border. He added that for this purpose it is necessary to obtain the consent of Kiev and Moscow. Lukashenka stressed that he did not intend to ask for peacekeepers and mediators. According to him, “it is excluded”, and he “just like human beings, a man wants this issue is resolved”.
The idea of the Belarusian leader did not find support in Moscow. Press Secretary of the Russian President, commenting on the proposal, noted that the Minsk agreements is not provided, and it is necessary to understand the attitude of the parties to the conflict to the proposal of the Belarusian side. The representative of the Kremlin recalled that the parties to the conflict are the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass and Kiev.
The head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk national Republic Denis Pushilin also rejected the idea of introducing Belarusian peacekeeping contingent on the territory of Donbass.
