In Mali, the collision of two helicopters killed 13 French soldiers. This writes Le Monde, referring to the French authorities.
It happened in the area Liptako in the South-East of the country. Faced two helicopters: combat Tigre and NH90 transport. Among the victims were six officers, six petty officers and chief corporal.
It is the largest loss of the French army during the operation against Malian fighters, starting with 2012: Le Monde reports that in recent years it killed about 30 soldiers. The President of France Emmanuel macron expressed appreciation to fallen military and called to “honor their memory with great respect.”
Mali has approximately 4.5 thousand of the French military. Paris sent troops to the country in 2013 as part of operation “Dune”to fight the Islamic radicals. Located in the country base and other EU countries, France is involved in training Malian personnel and supplies to military equipment.
