The lower chamber of the Polish Parliament adopted a resolution stating that Soviet Union along with Nazi Germany was responsible for starting world war II, the press service of the Seimas.
“After signing of the infamous Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact on 23 August 1939 the first victims of both totalitarian regimes were Poland and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe”, — said in a resolution.
Earlier, Deputy speaker of the Sejm of Poland Malgorzata Kidava-Blonska said that the country is going at the legislative level “to prohibit Russia to interpret the story from his point of view.” How this can be implemented, the Deputy said.
Her words were a reaction to the statements of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, who called the Ambassador of Poland in the Third Reich Jozef Lipski “a bastard and an anti-Semitic pig”. His assessment of the head of state explained that the diplomat allegedly justified the expulsion of Polish Jews in Africa before the Second world war and thereby supported in this matter of Adolf Hitler.
Later the Polish authorities stated that the assessment activities Lipsky was given without regard to historical context. According to them, the diplomat acted in agreement with the Polish Jewish community and the army, which tried to save the Jewish population of the country.
The Molotov — Ribbentrop Pact was signed between the USSR and Germany on 23 August 1939 in Moscow. The document was signed by foreign Ministers Vyacheslav Molotov and Joachim von Ribbentrop. Countries agreed not to attack each other and to keep neutrality in case of an invasion one of them another state. A week later after signing the document, on 1 September, Germany invaded Poland.
