It became known that the US and Iran were engaged in secret negotiations after assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. According to The Wall Street Journal.
The publication writes that the countries exchanged information via the Swiss Ambassador in Iran. American officials said that the negotiations were suspended, in contrast to the official statements. The sources added that the first message was sent to US a few hours after the elimination of Soleimani. The administration of U.S. President Donald trump has asked the Islamic Republic to refrain from escalation of the conflict, the Iranians have used the same channels to the Embassy of Switzerland in the Republic to respond to the White House. The message came through the Fax machine, knew only a few people.
Earlier it became known that the US attempted to one of the commanders of the Islamic revolutionary guard Corps (IRGC) Abdul Reza Shahlai, but the operation was unsuccessful. The United States conducted on the day of the attack on Soleimani similar operation in Yemen, but did not announce an attempt to overcome another commander of the IRGC.
3 January as a result of the US air strike on the Baghdad airport killed General of the Islamic revolutionary guard Corps, Qasem Soleimani. In response to Tehran on the night of 8 January, fired dozens of missiles at American targets in Iraq. Successful operation was called “Martyr Soleimani”. In the United States have reported no casualties and minimal damage to military bases.
