The President of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba resigns as head of state. About it reports TASS.
It is noted that the President’s statement of resignation was read by the former Prime Minister of the Republic Sergey Shamba.
Earlier it was reported that in Sukhum arrived Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov, to help in settling political crisis in Abkhazia.
9 January, a delegation of the opposition deputies of the Parliament of Abkhazia passed to the President of the Republic of their demands, the most important being the holding of new presidential elections. At the same time, the protesters blocked the building of the presidential administration and the Parliament of the Republic in Sukhumi. Khajimba refused to resign and threatened to impose a state of emergency in the country if the situation with the protests is not normal. He asked citizens to remain calm and not to succumb to provocations.
