Austria criticized the U.S. sanctions against the “Nord stream-2”

The Austrian foreign Minister Alexander Ellenberg criticized American sanctions against the pipeline “Nord stream-2”. His words are quoted by the newspaper Die Presse.

The Minister called for similar steps of the USA is unacceptable. “We reject the extraterritorial effects of the sanctions,” — said Shellenberg. He noted that the pipeline contributes to the diversification of European energy supplies and without prejudice to the interests of Ukraine.

Also, according to the politician, the American side does not hide the fact that her criticism is based on economic considerations. Speaking about U.S. plans to supply its EU liquefied natural gas (LNG), Ellenberg said that “Europe has other interests.”

In December 2019, the President of the United States Donald trump has signed the defense budget for 2020, which provides for sanctions against Russian gas pipeline “Nord stream-2”. Washington demanded from companies, the leading pipe-laying, to stop working. After that, Allseas announced the termination of construction. In the Federation Council expressed the view that attempts by the US to prevent the launch of the gas pipeline is doomed to failure.

As of November 2019, was built more than 80 percent of the pipeline. According to initial plans, the pipeline will be held in mid-2020. The authorities of Poland, Ukraine and the US opposes the Russian project.
