The speaker of the Senate of Poland Tomasz Grodzki said that he would invite the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to Auschwitz, as President of the Republic. This he thought in an interview with reporters of the newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
“And if Putin did not come, the game would be the opposite, and [the President of Poland Andrzej] Duda would be arguments but it is obvious the apparent collapse of his office”, he said.
At the same time Grodski, answering the question, should the President of Poland to go to Israel for the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, said that Duda “has put himself in the goat’s horn” in front of him was the choice between bad and worse option. “Whether to go to Israel or not — both options are bad,” he concluded.
That the Russian leader should be invited to Auschwitz, had earlier said the former President of Poland Lech Walesa.
The President of Poland refused to go to the world Holocaust forum, which will be held in Israel on 22-23 January, due to the fact that the part of its organizers allegedly linked to Moscow. In addition, as reported by Duda, he was not invited to perform on a par with Vladimir Putin, French leader Emmanuel Macron and other representatives of European States.
Commemorative events in honor of the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in Poland have to pass on January 27. It is assumed that Putin will not be there. In July 2019 the Polish authorities have announced their intention to send the Russian President’s invitation. Then the press Secretary of the head of Poland’s Blazej Spychalski said that the fact that the camp’s liberation by the Soviet army is historic.
