The Ambassador of Ukraine in Austria Alexander szczerba said that the gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” is a “noose around the neck of Ukraine”. The opinion he expressed on the page in Facebook.
According to the diplomat, the pipeline will continue to stifle the interests of Ukraine, because it put the fate of the gas transportation system of the country dependent on Russian good will. “Good will not happen”, — said the Ambassador.
His statement szczerba made in response to criticism of U.S. sanctions against the “Nord stream-2” Austrian foreign Minister Aleksander Shallenberger. The Minister called for similar steps of the USA is unacceptable. “We reject the extraterritorial effects of the sanctions,” — said Shellenberg. He noted that the pipeline contributes to the diversification of European energy supplies and does not infringe the interests of Ukraine.
In December 2019, the President of the United States Donald trump has signed the defense budget for 2020, which provides for sanctions against Russian gas pipeline “Nord stream-2”. Washington demanded from companies, the leading pipe-laying, to stop working. After that, the company Allseas announced the termination of construction. In the Federation Council expressed the view that attempts by the US to prevent the launch of the gas pipeline is doomed to failure.
As of November 2019 is more than 80 percent of the pipeline. According to initial plans, the pipeline will be held in mid-2020. The authorities of Poland, Ukraine and the US opposes the Russian project.
