The President of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba, the day before resigned this post, refused to run for the presidency of the Republic. This was stated by Vice-President of Abkhazia Aslan Bartsits, reports TASS.
According to him, Khajimba did not intend to stand as a candidate in the upcoming presidential elections. Bartsits noted that the resigned head of the Republic will remain in Abkhazia.
“This does not mean that he will sit idly by, he will participate in the political process that the country was law and order there was continuity,” said Vice-President.
Raul Khajimba resigned of the head of state on January 12 and sent to the Parliament a statement. Likely candidate for the post of the acting President of the Republic after his retirement was named Prime Minister Valery Bganba.
9 January, a delegation of the opposition deputies of the Parliament of Abkhazia passed to the President of the Republic of their demands, the most important being the holding of new presidential elections. At the same time, the protesters blocked the building of the presidential administration and the Parliament of the Republic in Sukhumi. Then Khajimba refused to resign and threatened to impose a state of emergency in the country if the situation with the protests is not normal.
