Aslan Participate: Press service of the President of Abkhazia
Vice President of Abkhazia Aslan Bartsits has filed a resignation. This is stated on the website of the President.
He stated that he made the decision in connection with the departure of Raul Khajimba as President of Abkhazia. Bartsits noted that he filed a resignation “for the sake of peace and stability” and to achieve national consensus in Abkhazia.
Earlier, on January 13 Bartsits said that Khajimba does not intend to stand as a candidate in the upcoming presidential election, but he will remain in the country.
Raul Khajimba resigned of the head of state on January 12 and sent to the Parliament a statement. Likely candidate for the post of the acting President of the Republic after his retirement was named Prime Minister Valery Bganba.
9 January, a delegation of the opposition deputies of the Parliament of Abkhazia passed to the President of the Republic of their demands, the most important being the holding of new presidential elections. At the same time, the protesters blocked the building of the presidential administration and the Parliament of the Republic in Sukhumi. Then Khajimba refused to resign and threatened to impose a state of emergency in the country if the situation with the protests is not normal.
