Russia is ready to allocate Sri Lanka a loan to buy six su-30 fighters and the party of BTR-82A. This became known after the visit of the head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov in Colombo, reports “Kommersant” with reference to sources in the Russian delegation.
It is noted that during the visit, Lavrov spoke about the importance of coordinating the positions of Russia and Sri Lanka at international forums.
The publication notes that Moscow is promoting the market of the Republic products of its military-industrial complex. In 2013 he completed the delivery on the last contract: Sri Lanka received 14 Mi-171E. It is known that the last few years, the two sides are also negotiating the supply of a patrol ship of the project “Gepard-5.1”, but about a year ago it became known that Sri Lanka will be developed by a ship of smaller tonnage.
According to sources, “Kommersant”, in Colombo needs to determine the range of the supply. It is assumed that the amount of additional export credit may exceed $ 500 million.
In February 2010 it was reported that Russia will open the Sri Lanka a line of credit for $ 300 million to buy domestic weapons and dual-use goods. Then, the main arms suppliers to Sri Lanka was China and Pakistan. Plans for further purchase of weapons from these States decided to withdraw after the end of hostilities against the separatist group “liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam”.
