The Russian foreign Ministry told about the expectations associated with the new U.S. Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan. His opinion was shared by Russian Deputy foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in an interview News.ru.
The diplomat expects that Sullivan will work on improving relations between Moscow and Washington, is in a difficult position. “I hope that we will begin (…) to overcome the crisis and move towards a more constructive agenda,” — said Ryabkov.
In December it became known that the U.S. Senate approved the candidacy of the new Ambassador to Russia. The post appointed the then Deputy Secretary John Sullivan. He has worked in the Pentagon, the justice Ministry and the Ministry of Commerce. At the state Department he is only two but is already considered one of the main figures of the Department.
In August, former Ambassador Jon huntsman has resigned. In his statement, the politician said that flattered by the trust that trump “had him as U.S. Ambassador to Russia in this historically difficult period of bilateral relations.” He added that Moscow need to be held accountable for the wrong behavior and continue a dialogue with it for the benefit of national interests.
