India is discussing the possibility to cooperate in the Arctic LNG project novateca and produce in the region of liquefied natural gas. This was stated by Indian Minister of oil and gas Dharmendra Pradhan, RIA Novosti reported.
“We are studying all possibilities to obtain LNG from this region,” said the Minister, adding that the country also is considering the issue of obtaining gas from Sakhalin.
Previously, the Agency, citing an interview with Russian Prime Minister Sergey Lavrov, Indian newspaper Times of India wrote that thanks to the cooperation with Russia in the oil and gas sector India may become the first non-government, involved in resource extraction in the Arctic. Lavrov said that the country “establish cooperation in the exploration and joint development of oil and gas fields on the territory of two countries, including offshore projects.” According to him, Indian organizations are embracing Vankor oil and gas field in Krasnoyarsk region oil and gas deposits of the project “Sakhalin-1”. Thus “Rosneft” in India presented as a shareholder of one of the largest local oil refinery “Vadinar”.
Now NOVATEK is developing a Morning field in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in the framework of the project “Arctic LNG 2”. In the year it is planned to produce 19.8 million tonnes of LNG. In the future the company plans to launch “Arctic LNG 1” with the same tonnage.
