The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov said that the country continues carrying out a de-dollarization of the economy. About this he said this in an interview with the Times of India.
According to him, this process occurs on the background of the aggressive use of U.S. “financial instruments sanctions pressure”. Therefore, Russia continues to phase out the dollar in its economy, explained Lavrov.
The Minister noted that the calculation in rubles was an objective reaction to the unpredictability of American economic policy. Lavrov said that Washington is abusing the fact that the dollar is the global reserve currency.
In October, Bloomberg reported that Russia has lost 7.7 billion dollars in foreign reserves after the decision to abandon the U.S. currency in favor of the Euro, the yuan and gold. The Russian Central Bank started to get rid of the dollar in the spring of 2018 on the background of U.S. sanctions against major Russian businesses, as well as because of concerns about the new restrictive measures.
