The decision of the American Corporation Microsoft to abandon support for the operating systems Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 has created problems for Russian banks. This was stated by the architect of the technology centre of the company in Russia Ivan Budylin, writes “Kommersant”.
Support discontinued since January 14. This means that operating systems no longer receive security updates, and therefore vulnerable, in terms of data loss.
This situation is forbidden to information security requirements and regulations of the Federal service for technical and export control (FSTEC).
For example, the position of the FSTEC number 55 indicates that if software support is terminated, it loses the certificate. And the Central Bank of the Russian banks prohibits the use of uncertified SOFTWARE.
To circumvent these provisions, some banks have a deal with Microsoft about support for Windows 7. At the same time they carry out the modernization of computer Park and private information systems.
The problem is widespread. According to the business security consultant Cisco Alexey Lukatsky, every fifth computer in Russian banks installed Windows 7. To upgrade to Windows 10 will require at least 15 billion, assuming a cost of one thousand dollars, and volume discounts.
Lukatsky reminded that in 2015, when Microsoft refused to support Windows Server 2003, FSTEC certificates extended it until August 2017. This allowed banks to switch to the new software without serious problems. But in the current situation the office is silent, and if the corresponding order does not appear in the near future, the Central Bank may begin to penalize banks. Officially, the regulator situation has not yet commented.
Ending support for Windows 7, presented in the summer of 2009, Microsoft said only 4 Jan. Users are suggested to upgrade to Windows 10 or buy a new device with this system.
