The minimum wage (SMIC) in Russia cannot be below the subsistence level. It is necessary to fix such a rule in the Constitution of the Russian Federation. This statement was made by President Vladimir Putin during the annual address to the Federal Assembly, the stream leads the TV channel “Russia 24”.

“I consider it necessary to enact a provision in the Constitution that the minimum wage may not be less than the minimum subsistence level. This is already enshrined in legislation, but I think that should be in the Constitution,” — said Putin.

The President also proposed to consolidate the basic law the principles of decent pension provision, in particular, the regular indexation of pensions.

Earlier in his speech, Putin proposed to include measures of support for families whose income does not exceed the minimum wage. According to him, in the first stage they will receive a payout of 5.5 thousand rubles.
