Russian Alexander Vinnik, who was arrested in Greece on the request of the U.S., spoke about the torture and psychological pressure. This became known from the Greek newspaper Ta Nea published a letter to the Russians.
According to winnick, want to kill him “because of the know-how” in the field of cryptocurrency, technological abilities and knowledge. The prisoner said that he does not even allow to breathe fresh air: the last time he was allowed to go out in the New year’s eve, December 31.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever see ever again his children and wife,” the letter said winnik. The Russians added that asks for help of everyone, “who has a conscience”, including human rights defenders.
Winnick’s lawyer Zoe Konstantopoulou also told the newspaper that within two hours the guards didn’t pass to him of a notary. Him the Russians were to sign a power of attorney to protect their rights. The newspaper also stated that “cryptocurrency king” winnick almost 30 days on hunger strike.
Winnick was arrested on 25 July 2017, when he spent holidays in the North of Greece. In October, a local court ruled to extradite the suspect of the United States, however, this decision was appealed. 13 October it was reported that the Supreme court of Greece upheld the decision of a lower court extradition winnik in the US, where he faces up to 55 years in prison and a multimillion-dollar fine. In March and April of 2018 the prisoner appealed to the Prosecutor General of Russia, statements about the confession, where he admitted to hacking, and money laundering in especially large size.
