Iran shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane unintentionally. This was stated by acting Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov on a press-conference at the end of 2019. Video stream available on the page of the office Facebook.
Lavrov said that the accident occurred due to human error. “I don’t want to justify. (…) The fact that it was unintentional, I think everyone already knew,” said the diplomat.
Earlier, Ukraine said that Iran impeded the investigation of the crash. 16 January it became known that Canada began its investigation of the crash of the Ukrainian “Boeing” near Tehran.
Boeing 737-800 “Ukraine International airlines” (UIA) caught fire and crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran airport on 8 January. Killed 176 people, including 11 citizens of Ukraine.
11 January, Iran admitted that the plane was shot down by mistake. The Iranian foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif explained that it was made in a period of crisis because of the “adventurism” of the United States.
